This Trenton model courtyard in Sun City Anthem adds over 500 Sq. Ft. of useable space to the home while providing plenty of shade for the house, casita and plants.

Steel reinforcement allows the clear span from the house to casita without posts.   The main support beams are 3"x8" with steel "C" channels installed inside.   2"x6.5" rafters will not meet engineering for local building codes to span this distance

Ace Awning Company can design a courtyard cover for any size or shape courtyard, whether it is a standard casita model home, or a custom casita has been added at a later date.

.

Some homeowners opt to leave part of the courtyard leading to the door open. Others enclose the entire courtyard. Usually the decision will be based upon which way the house faces.

.

Here is a "before" picture of a Trenton courtyard. Some of the 3"x8" main support beams are installed into the body of the home for strength.  The eaves are only a small 2x4 and are nailed. Attaching the cover to the eaves does not meet engineering requirements of a 22' span and 90 mph minimum wind load rating required by the city.

Temperatures of stucco, pavers, and concrete in the summer climb well above 140 degrees.  Stucco will reach 185 degrees on South or SouthWest exposures.

The completed courtyard keeps the house, casita and 740 sq ft of space underneath at a livable 85 degrees all summer long. The custom  "skylight" keeps the courtyard from getting too dark while accenting the water feature.
